Life always gets in the way of all my personal projects. It has been a while but I have finally decided to carve out at least an hour a day to work on my children’s book project that has been sitting dormant for a few years now. It was nice the other night I sat down and worked for over 3 hours on developing new content and working on expanding the universe that the books are based in. Excited and hope to keep the momentum going.

Imagine a wee little printer that sits on your desk that brings in snippets of news and fun things everyday! Or a to-do list that prints itself out so that you can just stick it in your journal. Or if you are a crossword fanatic a new crossword that prints out daily!

Meet Little Printer – its like having your own printing press within arms reach. The idea is awesome, I am a traditional print guy at heart and love having something tangible, having Little Printer is like having a mini mailman that delivers some printing goodness right to you and caters to your tastes.

This Little Printer is ready for some pre-orders, check it out at Berg.

Sorry I have not posted all week, this past week was my guest artist vist at Voorheesville Central School District. While there I did a workshop on Type with Art. I did some simple tutorials with Photoshop and Illustrator and with the techniques learned I had the classes do two projects.

migration

The first project I did with the students was a Word Exercise (Word Project as I called it), this is a classic typography excercise, this is something I did in College in my first year at Saint Rose in Albany, NY. Students are given a list of words and they need to interpret the meaning of the word by adjusting the spacing, scale, and position of the letters on a page. They were able to repeat, omit, slice, block or overlap words or letters. BUT they had to use the typeface in its true form, they couldn’t add drop shadows, or horizontal/vertical scaling (distortion).

blackcatThe second project I did with the students was a Book Cover redesign, after taking techniques I taught them with the first project and exercises I showed them during class, they had to reinvent and redesign a book they have read while in High School from a list of 9 titles. They would have to take shape and text and create a cover design and not use imagery that they can find just on the internet, they had to think conceptually on this one.

I felt that this was a successful workshop and I would definitely do it again if asked to.

Hello Everyone – I have returned from a well needed two week vacation. It felt good to finalyl relax and recharge my batteries. Now back to the grind. I have some new ideas and new art that I will be sharing in the coming weeks, some concepts for photography projects and other designs that I plan to share with everyone. Hope everyone is well – talk to you soon!

To keep up with my previous post on listing a few things that can help you get the perfect web site design here is part III:

Here are a few items that any web designer or web company will recommend to any client that approaches them for a website design. When looking for a web designer watch out when paying someone to build it. Not only do they need to offer you suitable and appropriate design abilities, but they also need to understand usability, recommend. critique and give you an evaluation of your company’s image and provide solid suggestions that will help and not hinder your business. Before picking a designer ask for references, look for testimonials, contact people that they have done work with in the past – do a little research it can go a long way. This is what will set a professional designer or professional design company apart from the guy that has the programs and gets templates and calls himself a designer.

I will go in further details on the following items to keep in mind, here is what you should keep in mind when getting the perfect web site design:

  1. Take your time
  2. Get professional advice
  3. Don’t be afraid to ask for changes
  4. Communication with your designer

I can’t believe I’ve been writing, sketching and posting in this space for almost a month now. . . 29 days and counting. (I am not counting the install of WordPress – you know Hello World..lol) And it’s so weird cause it seems like I just got started doing this (again).

Here I go, with 1 day remaining, back to posting…ENJOY!

bearToday is my 30th birthday! The big 3-0…30 years on this planet…wow! Now what? I plan to do something different this year – I am going to do 30 things during my first year as a 30 year old that are out of my element, or in my element (stuff on the back burner just procrastinating). I am going to make a list of things that I am going to accomplish this year, some are small, some are big but all of them will mean something to me. Why? I have accomplished a lot of things already but I feel like I am losing/missing something as I hit 30. I don’t know why I feel this way maybe its just the number or maybe that I have a bunch of things I still want to accomplish. So I made a decision that I am not going to just lay down and let this year go by like the previous year, I am going to actually do something to get this feeling go away.

I want to accomplish things and hopefully find something new during this journey. I don’t know what I am going to find during this journey but I have a good feeling about this. Below is a list of 30 things I want to accomplish while I’m 30 years old:

My List

These are not in any order, I will do them when the time is right. I will try to blog, take pictures and video if necessary. I will not explain why I chose these items on the list as I will explain them after I have accomplished it and blog about it.

To help motivate myself – for every accomplishment I complete I am going to donate $5.00 to some charitable organization (I will decide which one).

  1. Learn Yoga
  2. Sketch and share my drawings daily on this blog
  3. Get my art into a gallery show
  4. Donate my time to a worthy cause – not just donate money
  5. Take Skiing/Snowboarding seriously – and pick which one I want to do
  6. Finish one of my children’s books – yeah only one of my ideas

  8. Actually take a two week vacation
  9. Stay in a Haunted Hotel
  10. Go to Gettysburg
  11. Buy something I really want and not feel guilty about it
  12. Get back to the gym and run a 7 minute mile
  13. Make the house more Zen – get rid of things I just have but don’t really need
  14. Learn to ballroom dance
  15. Spend a whole day reading a book – I have a pile to get through
  16. Take a mini break all by myself
  17. Go whale watching
