Got Time for Creativity?

By in Creative Inspiration and Juices, Think Tank on September 15, 2011

I know we have all done it, come up with a great idea and started it and something happened and you never revisited the project. Another scenario that is too familiar, you have another awesome and amazing idea and you write it down and think about it for weeks and you just drop it or it gets pushed aside because of life and other commitments.

I found an interesting quote on Seth Godin’s Blog:

“99% of the time, in my experience, the hard part about creativity isn’t coming up with something no one has ever thought of before. The hard part is actually executing the thing you’ve thought of.

The devil doesn’t need an advocate. The brave need supporters, not critics.”

My question to everyone is how do people find time for their creative projects?

I would say don’t get married or have kids or an interest in the the previous two things mentioned, but I do and I still manage to get things done, not as fast as I would like but on time anyway.
Keeping the sleeping down to four hours a night helps but in most folks it can cause a psychotic break.
I think i get creative projects done because I treat it like bathing, do it once a day weather you need it or not and eventually they get done, and just like bathing, you just don’t feel right unless you’ve done it.

For me, it was partially about giving myself permission to do it. I had to get to the point where I really believed that it was ok for me to take that time to myself. Can’t lie, that was hard for me to get to. I define myself very much by how much work I can get done, and I’ve had to learn (slowly) that that approach to life doesnt make me happy anymore.

Also – I read this blog A LOT. It’s all about getting unstuck from your rut and doing the thing you truly want to do. Its been a big help to me in a lot of ways for a long time.

Very cool blog! I can see where this can help getting out of those ruts, which I manage to fall in a lot. Thanks!
